Tranquil Valley Sanctuary..Healing Horses, Heroes, and Homes

In their own words

Tranquil Valley Sanctuary uses a proven PTSD program written by Joseph Lancia from Windhorse Farm.  We would like to thank him for all the hours of research put into creating this program to assist our Veterans with healing.  Without his time, effort and research, we would be walking blind in an effort to help our Veterans and their families.  Here are some quotes from Veterans that have participated in the research and creation of Taming the Wild Horse, written and published by Windhorse Farm:
"Working with the horses for me was an experience that i feel really and truly allowed me to conquer something mentally and socially that had been limiting me.  It was beneficial being in a group and seeing the changes in the other veterans.  It gave me hope for change in myself."

"We must remember that in our military history we had to depend on the horse for many things.  If the horse was essential for us and the country in war, why not depend on the horse now for therapy of our PTSD."

"I was decorated with eight medals in the line of duty.  Two were the Purple heart and one was the bronze star.  I was discharged with an honorable discharge not knowing what the effects that war would have on me in civilian life.  I lived an open and hidden violent, hyper and depressed life.  I began therapy with the VA and numerous outside therapies.  I felt I was beyond help with my conditions:  metal anxiety, mental stress, mental depression, violent tendencies, etc.  Since starting Equine Psychotherapy I have improved greatly in areas of violence, taking back control of my life, and learning to relate, accept and build relationships with loved ones again.  Equine Psychotherapy has helped me to deal with my fears, guilt, attitude, and mood swings far beyond my expectations.  I am not out of the woods or jungles completely just yet but I am now off to a great start.

"I am a vet and have seen attending groups to help with my PTSD since 2004 with little positive impact.  When I was introduced to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy my life changed, therapy with the horses gave me insight that I did not know was possible.  I was able to see the positive and negative within myself due to to the exercises with the horses and working with the group.  Now I attend church on a regular basis, I no longer sit at home doing nothing.  I can control my anger most of the time.  This is the type of therapy every veteran should have access to."

"I recommend Equine Psychotherapy highly to all veterans fo yesterday and today coming home from Iraq.  I know this program will save many lives and give an earlier start to a new live after war like it has done for me.  War and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is HELL of a combination for anyone's child to live through."

"Having experienced Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, I believe the program will cut down a tremendous amount of suicides, family problems and just help all of us veterans get our minds back in order.  I know it did for me."

What Veterans say about equine assisted therapy

Working with veterans and EAP is something truly amazing each and every time we do it.  Some of these individuals have had such a difficult time getting their lives together and seeing how they react to each other and the horse is beyond word.  I have been touched by the strength of will it takes veterans who struggle to control their emotions or who feel they can't leave the seclusion  and sanctuary of their home to try EAP therapy.  I appreciate the privilege of being a part of their lives and their process of change.
